Kids', Youth & TEEN Day Camps
For the Summer of 2024, we are continuing to readjust what we are offering after Covid-19. We have Day Camps for children aged 9 – 12 years old, for youth aged 12- 14, teens aged 13-16, plus after-school and day trips for 13 to 18 year-olds. The day camps run for either 2, 4 or 5 weekdays this summer, except for the after school and day trip programs. All day programs are based in Cowichan Bay, starting from our dock at Bluenose Marina. The main water sport activities are kayaking using sea kayaks, river kayaks (on flatwater), canoes and stand-up paddle boards. Children also spend afternoons doing a variety of other activities in the area.

This program is aimed at the 9 – 12 years age group . It includes the use of a mixture of kayaks, canoe, SUP boards and focuses on learning through playing games on and off the water, learning the basics of paddle safety and includes beach and marine life exploration. This camp is suited to children who wish to play on and around the water and spend time with others at a beach environment.
Ages 12-14 Youth Paddling Skills and Exploration Camp
June 24-28, 2024......$336 + tax
This 5-day Program Focuses on Basic and Advanced Stand Up Paddle Board Skills. It is the primary starting point of the Paddle Canada SUP skills progression. With a focus on foundation skills and knowledge, these are reinforced through short excursions . During the excursions, students will go out on short paddling trips in calm and sheltered waters, in addition to spending time at and on the Beach front learning knowledge and safety skills.
Ages 13-16 Teen Kayak Skills and Exploration Camp
July 15-18, 2024....$269 + tax
August 5-8, 2024....$269 + tax
This 4-day fun, activity-based program takes you through the kayaking skills you will need for near-shore excursions in protected waters. We go over the equipment, how to prepare it, how to maintain it, and what is required by law. After the beginning introduction, we learn to launch, then get onto the water to learn and practice some skills in the kayak. We do rescues and learn paddling skills to give you more confidence on the water.
The course should give you the confidence and skills to paddle in calm, flat water up to light chop in a protected area, on shoreline paddles for several hours and may result in a Paddle Canada Basic Sea Kayak Skills Certificate.
Ages 13-16 Youth Intermediate Paddling Skills Camp
July 29 – Aug 2, 2024....$336 + tax
Aug 19 - 23, 2024....$336 + tax
This 5-day skill and activity-focused program lets you practice and learn more advanced sea kayaking skills. We review equipment, naviagation, safety and communications, and important safety and risk management concepts for kayaking. We learn and practice more advanced rescues and work through scenarios for meeting common challenges while kayaking.
The course should give you the confidence and skills to paddle on longer trips. This camp is intended to cover the skills for Paddle Canada Level 2 Skills certification, if desired.
Ages 13-18 Youth After School Paddle Club
May 27, June 3, 10, 2024 (3 weeks, 3 sessions)
3-sessions.....$68 + tax
For 2024, we only have the Spring club with 3 sessions. This program is based after school on Mondays, with Spring sessions made up of various water activities. These after-school days are meant to promote fun and physical activity. Some skills will be taught, but the emphasis is on fun.

You can choose individual day paddles, or the 4-session club or 6-session club to participate. This program is practicing and using acquired skills on day trips in the area. We may alter the starting location from Cowichan Bay, paddling in an area between Cedar-by-the-Sea to Mill Bay. These day trips will typically run from 8:30 am until about 3:00 pm.

After the beginning introduction, we learn to launch, then get onto the water to learn and practice some skills in the kayak. We do rescues and learn paddling skills to give you more confidence on the water.
The course should give you the confidence and skills to paddle in calm, flat water up to light chop in a protected area, on extended trips for a day.

Combine the two programs for a full, 4-day camp experience.
